Positions available in basic neuroscience and clinical science at multiple levels: postdoctoral scholar, research associate, staff scientist, and clinical coordinator.
Preclinical projects. We are looking for highly motivated and creative postdocs or experienced research associates to develop several exciting projects and initiate their own, focused on the neural circuitry and pharmacology of MDMA, ketamine, and classical psychedelics like psilocybin. We have close, active collaborations with the Department of Neurosurgery investigating mechanisms of DBS, as well as the Department of Psychiatry studying basic mechanisms of reward. We primarily use rodent behavioral models, behavioral pharamacology, optogenetics, in vivo calcium imaging, and whole brain imaging techniques.
The ideal candidate has an MD and/or PhD in neuroscience, pharmacology or quantitative biology, or must have extensive research associate-level experience in a neuroscience lab. Expertise in statistics and machine learning, and experience with python & Matlab, are strongly preferred. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and be willing to collaborate with multiple research and clinical groups within our world-class institution. Clinical projects. We have ongoing clinical trials at Stanford University Hospital aimed at understanding how therapies like ketamine and psilocybin might function in the brain and how they could be used to improve outcomes for patient undergoing surgery and in chronic pain. You will be responsible for day-to-day operations of two or more clinical studies, working with a highly collaborative team that includes Principal and co-investigators, fellow, residents, research nurse, medical students, and colleagues in the Psychiatry department at Stanford and UCSF, and Stanford’s Pain Medicine Division. This is an excellent opportunity to become a key player of a team thriving to make impactful contributions to the practice of perioperative medicine and pain management.
The ideal candidate has two years related work experience, and is very comfortable interacting with a diverse patient population, corresponding with the IRB, sponsors and regulatory agencies including the FDA and DEA.
