Daniel A. N. Barbosa, M.D., is a Senior Research Investigator in Brain Stimulation and Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dan’s focus is on personalized, circuit-based focal brain stimulation for treatment-resistant neurological and psychiatric conditions. He has a particular interest in translational studies and developing clinical trials to expand indications for circuit-based brain stimulation. He is examining the role of targeting brain circuits involved in impulsivity, appetitive processing and reward with focal electrical stimulation, direct neural recordings, transcranial magnetic stimulation, focused ultrasound and focal radiation in studies that could lead to innovative approaches for treatment-resistant neurologic and psychiatric conditions. Dan is also directly involved in novel clinical trials aimed to expand the field of brain stimulation to loss of control eating in obesity, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addiction, depression, and other psychiatric conditions.
